Vehicle description
This 1964.5 Ford Mustang convertible was acquired by the seller in 1989 out of Florida and refurbished circa 1995. Finished in Poppy Red with a power-operated black soft top and a white boot cover, the car is powered by a D-code 289ci V8 paired with a four-speed manual transmission. The cabin features front bucket seats trimmed in white vinyl upholstery, and further equipment includes a black dash pad, an AM/FM radio, 14″ styled steel wheels, drum brakes, a dual exhaust system, chrome bumpers, and a cabin heater. This Mustang convertible is now offered with the removed factory radio and a clean Illinois title in the seller’s name.
The car left the factory finished in Poppy Red and it was repainted in the factory color during the refurbishment in the mid-1990s, according to the seller. Details include a replacement power-retractable black soft top, a grille bar, vent windows, chrome bumpers, and dual exhaust outlets that exit through the rear valance. Video of the convertible top in operation is provided in the gallery.
The 14″ styled steel wheels are mounted with BFGoodrich Silvertown red-stripe tires. Braking is handled by front and rear drums.
The front bucket seats and rear bench wear replacement white vinyl covers and are joined by a black dashboard pad and carpets. The cabin is equipped with a heater and a retro-look AM/FM radio.
A three-spoke steering wheel frames a 120-mph speedometer flanked by fuel-level and water-temperature gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 30k miles, approximately 2k of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.
The D-code 289ci V8 was factory-equipped with a four-barrel carburetor and was rated at 210 horsepower when new.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission and an open differential with 3.00:1 gears.
The warranty number is consistent with a 1964.5 Mustang convertible that was built at the Dearborn, Michigan, plant and equipped with a 289ci V8 and a four-barrel carburetor. Decoding the trim tag reveals the following information:
