Vehicle description
This 1932 Auburn 8-100 was re-bodied under previous ownership with fiberglass boattail coachwork replicating that of a Speedster and reportedly underwent a refurbishment between 2007 and 2009 before being purchased by its late current owner approximately 15 years ago. Finished in red and maroon over red leather, the car is powered by a 268.6ci Lycoming inline-eight that breathes through an updraft Stromberg carburetor. Additional features include a three-speed manual transmission with free wheeling, four-wheel drum brakes, painted 17” wire wheels, dual side-mount spares, and a steering-column-mounted radio. This 8-100 is now offered by the seller on behalf of the owner’s estate at no reserve with a clean New Jersey title.

The 8-100 model range was introduced for 1932 and carried over the 127”-wheelbase double-drop X-brace frame of its predecessor, the 8-98. Alan Leamy-styled bodywork was available in various combinations of two- or four-door layouts and open or closed configurations, including the rakish Speedster that had been introduced in 1931.

This example wears fiberglass recreation bodywork replicating the boattail profile of a Speedster and is finished in red with maroon accents and beige pinstriping. Features include rear-hinged doors, a raked V-shaped windshield, cat’s-eye headlights and cowl lamps, Trippe driving lights, and a winged-man hood ornament.
Maroon-painted 17” wire wheels are secured by two-eared knock-offs and are wrapped in 6.00/6.50-17 Firestone wide-whitewall tires, as are dual side-mount spares that carry side mirrors. Stopping is handled by Steeldraulic drum brakes at each corner.
The cabin houses a bench seat trimmed in red leather with matching upholstery over the door panels, kick panels, and dash perimeter. Additional features include color-keyed carpeting, door pockets, and a Philco rotary-dial radio mounted to the steering column. A golf club storage compartment behind the cabin is accessible via a door on the passenger side.
The three-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of a body-color dash with an engine-turned panel housing a 100-mph speedometer and gauges monitoring amperage, oil pressure, coolant temperature, oil level, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 50k miles, with true mileage unknown.
The 268.6ci Lycoming inline-eight features a single Stromberg updraft carburetor and was factory rated at 100 horsepower. A maintenance service is said to have been performed in 2023.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a three-speed manual transmission with free wheeling. Suspension incorporates solid axles, semi-elliptical leaf springs, and hydraulic lever-arm shock absorbers at front and rear.
Number 81006249E is stamped on a tag riveted to the firewall and is used as the car’s identification number on the title.
