Vehicle description
This 1987 BMW 535is was first registered in Pennsylvania, and it later spent time in New York and California before it was acquired by the seller in 2016. Finished in white over blue leather, the car is powered by a 3.4-liter inline-six paired with a five-speed manual transmission. It is also equipped with a power-operated sunroof, a decklid spoiler, fog lights, 16″ basketweave-style wheels, an onboard computer, cruise control, and power-adjustable front sport seats. Work under current ownership is said to have included adjusting the valves, servicing the fluids, installing an Ireland Engineering front anti-roll bar and Turner Motorsports hub extenders, and replacing the battery, left-front wheel bearing, strut mounts, upper and lower control arms, hoses, and ignition wires. This E28 is offered at no reserve with factory literature, service records, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Virginia title in the names of the seller and their father.
The car left the factory finished in Alpine White, and the seller states that it was repainted under previous ownership. Features include a decklid spoiler, a power sunroof, impact bumpers, and a central twin-tip exhaust outlet. Close-up photos of blemishes are presented in the gallery below.
Basketweave-style 16″ wheels are wrapped in 225/50 General G-Max RS tires and mounted over Turner Motorsports hub extenders. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel disc brakes. Work under current ownership is said to have included changing the left-front wheel bearing, flushing the brake fluid, and replacing the strut mounts along with the upper and lower control arms. An Ireland Engineering front anti-roll bar was also fitted, although the seller notes that the anti-roll bar bushing bracket is not welded to the undercarriage rails.
The power-adjustable front sport seats and the rear bench seat are trimmed in blue leather and are accompanied by color-coordinated door panels and carpets. Appointments include cruise control, an onboard computer, a short-throw shifter, and power accessories. Photos show a tear in the right-front seat, cracks in the dashboard, and a rip in the weatherstripping near the passenger-side door sill plate. The radio is inoperative and the air conditioning does not blow cold.
The three-spoke steering wheel frames a 160-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and gauges for coolant temperature, fuel level, and instant fuel economy. The six-digit odometer shows 155k miles, and the seller states that the odometer has stopped working under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.
The 3.4-liter M30 inline-six was factory rated at 182 horsepower and 214 lb-ft of torque, and it drives the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission. Work performed under current ownership is said to have included adjusting the valves, flushing the coolant, changing the oil, and replacing the battery, hoses, and ignition wires. The seller reports a parasitic electrical drain.
Additional underside photos can be viewed in the gallery below.
The Carfax report shows no accidents or other damage and lists history in New York, Pennsylvania, and California, and Virginia.
