This 1983 Mercedes-Benz 300D Turbo was inherited by the current owner in January 2011 from their father, who reportedly purchased it in 1983. Over the course of their parents’ ownership, the seller’s mother drove the car over 200k miles. The car now shows 315k miles, and it is finished in Black over Palomino MB-Tex and is powered by a 3.0-liter turbodiesel inline-five paired with a four-speed automatic transmission. Equipment includes a sunroof, 14″ Bundt alloy wheels, and a Becker Grand Prix cassette stereo. Work under current ownership has included replacing the driveshaft center support in May 2019, the oil pan gasket and the front crankshaft oil seal in November 2022, four drive belts in March 2023, the rear axle shaft assembly and the lower ball joints in May 2023, and the ignition switch in July 2024. This W123 300D Turbo is now offered by the seller on behalf of their spouse at no reserve with a window sticker, the owner’s manual, service records, spare parts, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Texas title in the owner’s name.
The car left the factory finished in Black (040) and was refinished in May 2018. Equipment includes a sunroof, fog lights, dual side mirrors, a power antenna, and bright trim. Signs of rust are noted near a rear badge.
Silver-finished 14″ Bundt alloy wheels are mounted with Mohave Touring A/S tires that were reportedly installed in 2023. Stopping power is provided by disc brakes at each corner. The steering gear box was replaced in November 2017, the brake pads and brake master cylinder were replaced in January 2021, the rear axle shaft assembly and the lower ball joints were replaced in May 2023, and the steering column lock was reportedly replaced in 2024.
The cabin features front bucket seats and rear bench upholstered in Palomino MB-Tex. Interior features include power windows, a Becker Grand Prix cassette stereo, and automatic climate control, which the seller notes operates sporadically. The front seats show signs of wear, the cruise control function does not work, there are cracks in the dashboard, the glove box lid is misaligned, and additional interior imperfections are shown in the gallery. The air conditioning system has been converted to utilize R134a refrigerant.
The red toggle switch was added as an emergency fix for the air conditioning while the seller’s mother was on a road trip in Louisiana.
The four-spoke steering wheel frames instrumentation consisting of a 125-mph speedometer and a 6k-rpm tachometer as well as an analog clock and gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level. The six-digit odometer shows 315k miles, approximately 84k of which were added under current ownership. The instrument dimmer switch does not work.
The 3.0-liter turbodiesel inline-five was factory rated at 123 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. The blower motor assembly was replaced in June 2019, the glow plugs were replaced in November 2019, and a diesel injector, fuel return hoses, an oil feed line and return line gaskets were replaced in August 2021.
